Greek Feasts

When my daughter told me she planned to spend a semester  in Athens, I wasted no time planning my trip (s) to see her. After all, I couldn’t let her have all the fun and she would be missing me, or more to the point, I would be missing her. Plus I was not going to waste an opportunity to travel. We found an apartment large enough for the whole family and spent a fabulous week over Thanksgiving eating our way though Athens. Greek yogurt with walnuts, pomegranate seeds and honey made for a delicious breakfast. Lunch was with a pork and chicken gyro, the shaved meat stuffed into a thick pita with lettuce, tomato, tsatsiki and french fries. The fries seemed like an unlikely addition to a gyro but they were so delicious, satisfying and cheap! It was an amazing week and I, for one, did not miss cooking turkey, stuffing and apple pie.
