I am shamelessly influenced by food tv, which is how we ended up at Ivan’s Slurp Shop for a pre-opera dinner tonight. After seeing Ivan Orkin on Chef’s Table, I knew we had to run right over there to try his ramen bowls. There were as slurpy, salty and satisfying as they looked on tv. The noodles in soy sauce-seasoned chicken broth with a roasted tomato “umami bomb” and a soft boiled egg was perfect. I could eat it every night. And I fully intend to try to replicate it at home with packaged ramen. I’m sure it won’t be as delicious, but I can get close (and I’ll share it on here too). We chased it down with a couple of beers and followed it with ice cream from Ample Hills Creamery. Hubby had some kind of salted caramel and I had vegan chocolate coconut- so creamy and good. I was a very happy opera goer indeed.
